The Secretariat of the West Africa School on Internet Governance (WASIG) has announced the successful candidates selected for the WASIG 2024 Fellowship Program. Out of 1,272 applicants from 15 West African countries, a total of 100 successful candidates have been chosen to participate in the school online from 27 May to 15 June 2024.

From these 100 participants, 50 will be selected based on their performance in the online program to attend a three-day workshop in Dakar, Senegal. They will have the opportunity to participate in the West Africa Internet Governance Forum and the Youth IGF in Dakar, Senegal, from 7 to 12 July 2024.

The candidates represent a diverse range of sectors in society, including civil society, government, academia, business, technical, security, and end-user groups.

The Fellowship Program aims to select individuals who have a keen interest in or are already engaged in various aspects of Internet Governance within the West African region. WASIG’s primary objective is to build the capacity of West African stakeholders on Internet Governance (IG) issues, particularly emerging issues in West Africa. The program will enhance participants’ awareness of Internet Governance, ensuring that they are well-equipped to contribute at the national, regional, continental, and global levels of the IG process.

Le Secrétariat de la West Africa School on Internet Governance (WASIG) a annoncé les candidats sélectionnés pour le programme de bourses WASIG 2024. Sur un total de 1 272 candidats provenant de 15 pays d’Afrique de l’Ouest, 100 candidats ont été retenus pour participer à l’école en ligne du 27 mai au 15 juin 2024.

Parmi ces 100 participants, 50 seront sélectionnés en fonction de leur performance lors du programme en ligne pour assister à un atelier de trois jours à Dakar, Sénégal. Ils auront l’opportunité de participer au Forum sur la Gouvernance de l’Internet en Afrique de l’Ouest et au Youth IGF à Dakar, Sénégal, du 7 au 12 juillet 2024.

Les candidats représentent une diversité de secteurs de la société, y compris la société civile, le gouvernement, le monde académique, les affaires, le secteur technique, la sécurité et les groupes d’utilisateurs finaux.

Le programme de bourses vise à sélectionner des individus qui ont un vif intérêt pour la Gouvernance de l’Internet ou qui sont déjà engagés dans divers aspects de celle-ci au sein de la région ouest-africaine. L’objectif principal de la WASIG est de renforcer les capacités des parties prenantes ouest-africaines sur les questions de Gouvernance de l’Internet (GI), en particulier sur les enjeux émergents en Afrique de l’Ouest. Le programme vise à sensibiliser les participants à la Gouvernance de l’Internet, en veillant à ce qu’ils soient bien équipés pour contribuer aux niveaux national, régional, continental et mondial du processus de GI.7
